When I started learning Chundokwan Taekwondo in high school my Sabbamnim (or instructor) told me, "funny thing is your body already thinks it knows how to defend itself, but really every belt between white and black is to show you that's not true. After you figure that out - you're a black belt - then the real learning begins." This advice is critical to learning the right way of doing anything. The first step to learning more about a solution is to realize you don't already have it and be open to new ideas that may make the whole process from 0-1 an fun one for you.
2) Stop not enjoying life!
Which leads me right into this gem. Stop denying yourself those guilty foods and torturing yourself at the gym if it doesn't have a real benefit to you. A healthy lifestyle incorporates a positive experience into every fact of the human experience. In other words, the best way for you to live is in a way that makes you happy all the time - not unhappy during every moment of your life except when you step on a scale. There is a natural and healthy way to lose belly fat without going through ridiculous lengths that make you uncomfortable.
3) Set goals
Setting the parameters for your first step is as important as taking it. Realize that to attain your dreams you're going to have to identify what that dream is. Is your dream just to drop 6 lbs. by your wedding date? Or are you aiming to gain 20 lbs of muscle before your next body building show? Make your goals realistic and hold to your guns down the line so you don't settle for less than the goal you set for yourself.
4) Visualize
This may be the most important step to take before realizing your dream for a healthier lifestyle. You're going to need to see yourself already living a healthier and more fit lifestyle. See yourself living happier having met those goals you've just set for yourself. If need be write down the number of pounds you plan to lose. This is perhaps the most effective way to accomplish any goal as it sets up your attitude for success, which in turn, directly affects the amount of effort you're going to put into reaching your dreams.
